Ocean, also known as Kenny, introduces herself as a 19 year old from Tivoli Gardens and says she expects to be in everybody’s business. She wants to investigate whether the women who have been exchanging words online will maintain the same energy when they meet in person. Rather than hiding her curiosity, she presents herself as someone who wants to find out what is really happening behind the public arguments.
My takeaway is that Ocean understands one of the central attractions of reality television: the difference between what people say online and how they behave when they share the same physical space. Online arguments allow people to choose their words, leave a conversation, or speak to an audience that already agrees with them. Face to face interactions introduce body language, immediate reactions, and the possibility of having to explain oneself directly. Ocean’s interest in uncovering those differences gives her a clear role in the show’s social dynamic, although there is also a risk that being involved in everybody’s business could draw her into conflicts that have little to do with her.
