Ja Divas – Episode 1. Part 1. – The Brunch – “Tabia’s Introduction Suggests That She Is Comfortable With Drama Being Part of Her Image”

Tabia introduces herself as a 19 year old originally from Spain and associates her presence on the show with personality and drama. Although her introduction is brief, it fits the atmosphere of a cast in which the women are encouraged to be bold, expressive, and memorable. She does not attempt to present herself as someone who will necessarily avoid every disagreement.

My interpretation is that Tabia is establishing the kind of image she wants the audience to associate with her. In reality television, a person can quickly become known for being funny, outspoken, stylish, confrontational, or difficult to read. Once an identity takes hold, however, it can become hard to move beyond it. If Tabia wants to be recognised for more than drama, she will need moments that reveal other parts of her personality. Her introduction leaves that possibility open, but the audience will need to see more of her interactions before drawing a firm conclusion about who she is.
