Ja Divas – Episode 1. Part 1. – The Brunch – “Shan’s Straightforward Personality Could Be an Asset or a Source of Conflict”

Shan Basel introduces herself as the oldest member of the group at 24 and says viewers can expect personality and straightforwardness from her. That description is especially relevant in a setting where the women are encouraged to speak openly about one another. A person who values direct communication may be more willing to express an uncomfortable opinion rather than pretend everything is fine.

What I take away from Shan’s introduction is that straightforwardness can be valuable, but it also requires judgment. Speaking honestly does not automatically mean that every thought needs to be delivered in the sharpest possible way. A direct person can help clear up misunderstandings, but directness can also make an already tense situation worse if the other person feels attacked. I will be interested to see whether Shan uses her confidence to keep conversations honest or whether her approach becomes another source of friction within the group.
